Peaceful Holidays between the Sea and the Mountains

Our "mas de campagne" is one of those old stone farmhouses in the southern foothills, which has evolved over the past centuries from the original building. The architecture has lent itself to a harmonious development of holiday apartments, without spoiling its atmosphere. Our five apartments can accommodate from between two to eight persons. They are fully furnished to a high standard of comfort, (important for tall people: the beds are Swiss made, 2 meters long and have no footboard), and are well suited for all year residence.

The "Domaine", situated in eighty hectares of land comprising fields, meadows, "garrigue" and woodlands, has magnificent views and is a paradise for nature lovers. We have a large sea salt swimming-pool (fully fenced), and there are ample facilities nearby for riding, climbing, tennis, fishing, golf and canoeing. Bicycling and walking, of course begin right at the front door. Amusements for children are virtually endless: building tree houses, daming streams, camping out, swimming and so forth.

Our region is one of great interest, but is well away from the centres of mass tourism. Nearby is the town of Nîmes, there are also exhibitions, potteries, caves, the imposing bamboo forest near Anduze, the old steam railway in the Cevennes, and picturesque medieval townships and villages.

For expeditions farther afield (and we will willingly arrange transport to the nearest bus or railway station for those without their own car) the Camargue and the sea are but an hour away. And within easy reach are the great cultural centres of the Provence: Avignon, St.Rémy, Les Baux, Tarascon..., with their monuments, churches, street markets, museums, festivals and so forth. Or perhaps you would prefer to stay at home, swing in a hammock, read, or look into the trees and dream. We have a large library with hundreds of books in English, French, and German and there is a very good piano with sheet music that we are very happy for you to use.

A few words about ourselves

We have moved here from Switzerland twelve years ago as we had fallen hopelessly in love with this still wild and unspoiled spot. At first we tried to create well tended gardens with lawns and flowerbeds, but soon discovered it was a loosing battle we fought against nature. So we have given the land back to wilderness and just let our horses come up to the house from time to time to take care of the grass if it becomes too long and have the advantage of being able to pick up berries right in front of the house. All our vegetables (please help yourself, it's on the house) are organically grown.

With your stay at the Domaine you'll enjoy fabulous sunsets, night skies full fo stars (there is no "light pollution"), nightingales that sing in the mild spring night and if you feel like company, a glass of wine and conversation with fellow guests in the courtyard of the Domaine.

We would like to share this place with you, be here for you if you need tips for an outing, a good restaurant or if you need help with the language or anything else. (We speak English, French, German and some Spanish. )

Note: There is a charge of 35 euros per additional person for accommodations listed below.

Bookings for Apartments are based on a 7 night holiday from Saturday to Saturday.

Shorter stays may be possible by arrangement, please ask.
