Domaine des Castelles

Nestled in the countryside amidst vineyards, in the Aude department of the Languedoc-Roussillon, is a lovely domaine (former wine grower) surrounded by one hectare park with mature trees. It is located 5km from Carcassonne, "la Cité Médiévale" and within easy access to the châteaux cathares, the Mediterranean sea, the Canal du Midi, the Pyrénées and Spain.

The area is steeped in history - the Romans were here setting up an important military base at Narbonne. So were the Visigoths with their capital city at Toulouse. It boasts rolling countryside, dotted with tiny hilltop villages (some of great antiquity) - a walker's paradise, off the usual tourist itineraries.

Several delightful Mediterranean resorts such as La Franqui, Narbonne Plage and Port La Nouvelle are within easy driving distance. Throughout the summer, the region is alive with festivals and events, including 1 golf course nearby.

You will find character, genuine hospitality and charm at the Domaine des Castelles. Isabelle, its owner, is full life, energy and spontaneity. She is an enthousiast of art and classical music. Guests enjoy excellent conversations and music with Isabelle when they congregate in the park, late into the night, on hot summer evenings. Here are some comments: "Wonderful music... Guestrooms and Suite

A private entrance leads to the guests quarters located on the second floor. Guestrooms are bright and very spacious and offer all modern comfort. The suite has a walk-in balcony overlooking the park.

  • 1 bedroom with 1 double bed for 2 persons
  • 1 bedroom with 1 single bed and 1 queensize bed
  • 1 large suite for a maximum of 5 people

    Breakfast:
     A copious breakfast with homemade jams, fresh bread, croissants and various fresh fruits is served in the breakfast room which opens onto a large furnished terrace shaded with climbing vines.

  • From 70 to 75 euros for 2 persons/night
  • 20 euros per additional person



    Gite in the Courtyard



    The gîte is bright and comfortably furnished. On the ground floor, there is a a fully equipped kitchen including a clothes washer. A large open area living/dining room opens onto the terrace and shaded garden. An antique staircase leads onto two large double bedrooms. The bathroom is fitted with all modern amenities.

    Gîte rates per week: (heat & electricity included)

  • July and August ............... 490 euros
  • Other months .................. 420 euros
  • Monthly rates are negotiable

    House rental on the garden side

    The 2-storey house is part of the traditional domaine. Completely restored to high standards in 2009, it offers all modern comfort and amenities. There is one bedroom and 1 bathroom on the ground floor. A wooden stairway leads to the mezzanine and the bedrooms on the second floor.

    On the second floor: 2 double bedrooms, 1 full bathroom and a separate WC.

    The ground floor is a large open concept with living, dining and an open fireplace. The kitchen is bright and spacious. Amenities include refrigerator/freezer, small electrical appliances, cooker and oven, clothes washer, dishwasher, cookware, china, utensils, etc.

    Kitchen and living room open onto a large furnished private terrace (50 sq.meters) overlooking the park. Garden furniture and deckchairs are available.

    The house can accommodate 7 to 8 persons. Parking on the property.

    House rates per week: 890 euros (heat & electricity included)

    The Domaine des Castelles is a peaceful retreat and an excellent base from which to explore this romantic region of France.

    Directions: Exit CARCASSONNE West, follow direction Salvaza Airport, stay on D119 for approximately 4 km. House sign-posted on left.
