Bed & Breakfast at the Rooftops

Louise & Phill would like to welcome you to their home in the lovely village of Cambieure,
which is located between Carcassonne and Limoux.

As you drive from Carcassonne towards Limoux just south of the village of Montreal,
the scenery is delightful - rolling hills, meadows and vineyards with spectacular views of the Pyrenees.

Our home is an 18th Century farmhouse and there is a secluded garden, with a plunge pool, which is available for guests to use; or you may simply want to enjoy the local wine while you relax on the terrasse from where you may also view the mountains.

Our village is in the heart of the Malpere and is surrounded by acres of vineyards with some lovely walks. The closest town is Limoux, which has many shops and restaurants and a wonderful market square, which is a delight to sit in whilst enjoying a glass of 'blanquette'. Limoux is the home of the famous Blanquette, reputedly the oldest sparkling wine in France. This lovely old town on the river Aude is still virtually unspoilt.

There are thriving markets in the local nearby small towns; Monday is Mirepoix; Wednesday is Bram; Friday is Limoux; Saturday is Carcassonne. All offer an insight into a way of life, which for many visitors is a bygone era.

The Rooftops can be your base from which to explore this fascinating region, which has numerous activities all year round.

In the Summer you can follow the Cathar trail with its many fortified medieval villages and castles, including the famous four chateaux at Lastours.

The winter offers excellent skiing or snowboarding all within a relatively short distance.

    Further suggestions for day trips:

    * La Cité - the medieval city of Carcassonne
    * The lake in the Montagnes Noires - walks, swimming, barbeques and picnics
    * The Cathar castles at Queribus, Puivert, Montsegur, Peyrepertuse and Foix
    * Boat trips on the Canal du Midi
    * Trips to the Mediterranean resorts of Narbonne and Gruissan
(50 minutes drive from the house)
    * Skiing/snowboarding or simply walking in the Pyrenees
       (50 - 90 minutes depending on conditions)
    * Wine tasting at the vineyards of the Corbieres and Minervois

Throughout the summer, the region is alive with festivals and events, many of which are a short drive from our village.
