Bonjour mes amis. My name is Madeleine Cantin. "...en France" is the result of my long time interest in France, its people, countryside, language, literature, art and history. I have traced my own ancestry back to Nicholas Quentin, born in Honfleur, Normandie. He settled on the Ile d'Orléans, Québec, in 1652. I first explored France in the mid sixties on more or less $5.00 a day, staying in International Youth Hostels and "pensions" (today's chambres d'hôtes).

Over the years, my curious nature has led me to several other countries, either backpacking or journeying by car, bus, train, bicycle... Invariably, I returned to France. I love its small villages and quiet meandering roads where there is so much to discover. Robert, my partner in life, and I have also acquired a taste for France's regional foods, the delicious cheeses and the fine wines.

In 1993, I searched numerous villages in several regions throughout France, with the intent of purchasing a small village house. I came back to my first love, Saint-Julien-de-Briola, a small village located in the Department of Aude, in the Pyrenees-Roussillon region. I first became acquainted with Saint-Julien in October of 1988, when Robert and I decided to do a bicycle tour of the mid-Pyrenees. We were looking for accommodations (chambres d'hôtes and Gîtes) when a friend suggested we rent her companion's house in Saint-Julien-de-Briola. We have been back to Saint-Julien each year ever since and now we are working on our little village house.

Bon Voyage!
