Château de Rosières

Upon leaving the small village of Saint Seine, and following the gracious Vingeanne river, you will find yourself at the ancient boundary of Burgundy and Franche-Comté. You shall not be surprised if, when meandering over 3500m on a small country road, you notice on your left, the genuine plain-fortress "Château de Rosières" which was erected during the XVe century as a sentinel to watch over the village of Saint Seine sur Vingeanne.

During the XVIIe century, under Pierre de Saint-Seine, the massive 4-storey construction evolved from a feudal fortress to a residence and its interiors were adapted to a lifestyle centered on comfort. The present owners have spent the last twenty years restoring "Rosières" and have taken great care in preserving its authenticity. The austerity of the building yields to a warm and comfortable interior.

The suites offer all modern conveniences while retaining the original features intact - windows, arcades, beamed ceilings, floor tiles, natural stonewalls and enormous fireplaces adorned with carvings, etc. Central heating is located under the floor tiles on each floor as not to disturb the medieval aura of the place. Furnishings are rustic and unpretentious. You will find a splendid sense of space and privacy and a glimse of what life in a XVe century fortress manor might have been. Corkscrew stairwells lead onto a maze of arcades, passageways, vaulted chambers, private quarters, watchtower, machicolations and loopholes. Mr. Bergerot, the owner, said: "Children love it here".
