Nestled in the Normandie-Orne region, next to the Calvados, Le Prieuré Saint-Michel, located in the heart of Pays d’Auge, is near Camembert, 30 km from Lisieux, 50 km from Deauville or only 2 hours from Mont-Saint-Michel.Situated on a hill side, the priory is one of the rare Benedictine places which has survived from the Middles Ages, keeping its main buildings : the magnificent 13th century tithe barn with its soaring timbered roof, the intimate chapel with its barrel vaulted ceiling and one of the largest timbered cidrerys built during the 15th century. Buildings have been restored in order to re-create the peace and tranquillity of the ancient priory and its gardens.
The gardens Protected by hedges of hornbeam, each garden reveals itself like a secret as you enter. Stroll as the mood takes you through the rose garden, the iris garden or the physic garden.
Take the lime walk, with views over the surrounding countryside, leading to the orchard and wildflower garden, where water trickles gently down through pools teeming with animal and plant life.
Finally, below the tithe barn, the water lily pond reflects a dazzling palette of colours in its luxuriant surroundings.
In the summer season, concerts are held in the grounds, providing a musical accompaniment to the beautiful colours and scents of the gardens.
